伝統は歴史ではない！伝統の向こうへ、伝えるべき人へ。
Inspirationの語源はラテン語のspirare「呼吸する」、つまり人間に欠かせない日々の営みを表しています。
伝統分野において、日々同じ営みを繰り返すことは、決して良いことではありません。
自ら新しい刺激をさがし、1つのひらめき（inspiration）に安住する事なく研鑽を積んで初めて、
伝統は文化として生き続けます。
伝統を超えた先に、創造の源が確かに存在しています。

Tradition is not history.
Beyond traditions, for those who seek the inspiration of Kyoto.
The source of the word inspiration is “spirare” which in Latin means to breath; in other words, it is an indispensable act of living for humans. In the field of traditions, to repeat the same activity is not necessarily well received. The only way for traditions to be kept alive as a culture is to seek for new stimulation and to build on creativity every day without settling on one source of inspiration.
Surely, the source of inspirations exists beyond traditions.

Biography

昭和32年、京都市生まれ。
20代より表具師の道に入り、数多くの美術品や仏画、屏風などの演出を手がける。
現在、その培ってきた伝統的な京都の表具技術を現代アートの演出に展開している。

Began a career as a real Hyogu craftsman at the age of 18 and has produced a variety of Hyogu items
including art works, Buddhist paintings and folding screens.
His current focus is mainly on producing contemporary art works
utilizing the traditional techniques he has acquired while pursuing Hyogu.

In October 2016, the hyougu master Yoshishige Tanaka received a prestigious recognition from the Office Chief of the Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry in Kinki (Kansai region, around Osaka, Kyoto and Nara – Japan).
